Jogja Urban Green Open Space

Yaayy, It's time to discuss about my lovely hometown, Yogyakarta!! In this post I'd like to discuss about urban green open space in Yogyakarta.

What is urban green open space??
It can be divided into 3 parts :
- Park green open space
- Agricultural green open space
- Conservation green open space
In this post, it will be focusing on park green open space. Actually, green open space has an important role both in protecting and enhancing the natural environment. It plays on economic, ecology, and social.
Economic
With the exist of urban park, it can be increase the urban image. It will also support the tourism in the city and for the conclusion, the local government income will be increasing. Not only that, it also can give the opportunity for informal sectors to sold their food or entertainment around the park. But please underline, the informal sectors must be under the right regulation.
Ecology

There are so many advantages from the ecological aspect. Green open space provides a natural habitat for animals such as birds, insects, fish, and so on. Moreover, trees have an ability to collect the pollution particle as their respiration process. Thus, it can also reduce pollution. The vegetation can also being a solution for flood prevention as their function to absorb the rain water. With green open space, we can save more energy as their ability to reduce the soil surface temperature and the average air condition as well. Indeed, it will significant with our global effort to against global warming.
Social
Beside economy and ecological aspects, the green open space also gives social benefits. The green open space can reduces noise pollution from the vehicle activities in the street/road which usually has an impact for settlement area. Moreover, parks provide the urban citizen a place for recreation, play, meditate, or even for do sport activities.

How about green open spaces in Yogyakarta?
After Herry Zudianto (HZ)  had been a mayor of Yogyakarta city, Yogyakarta has been transformed into a green city. This city even being the most livable city based on IAP (Indonesia Planner Association) version. It was because HZ promoted urban parks development and street greening campaign. The 0 km which locates at Malioboro area has been transformed into public open space which being the youth hang out place.
But, based on my own opinion, it still not enough to provide a green open space as its function. Yogyakarta still haven't a park which people can do activities such as sports, plays, or even just sit on the bench and feel the air. The 0 km mentioned above is a public open space. Please underline that it is different with park.
We can see Solo city which also has been transformed after Jokowi's leadership. They have several urban parks such as Taman Sekartaji, Taman Balekambang, and so on. The other example is Surabaya which also has developed several parks to provide their people a green open space. I really hope Haryadi Suyuti as the recent mayor of Yogyakarta city can provide us an urban park.
